Mini-Maestros - Level 1 Intro to Music Class - Age range: 4 to 6 years as of June 1, 2023 (designed for K4, K5, & 1st grade levels)
 
Your child will learn to express himself/herself musically with other children through song, movement, and high-quality percussion instruments (e.g. boomwhackers, drums, etc.). He or she will demonstrate an understanding of concepts such as melody, rhythm, loud/soft, fast/slow, scale, instrumentation, and performer/audience skills during games, drama/stories, and “impromptu” performances. Students will also learn to read simple notated rhythms.  We have designed this class to be experientially rich and fun!  Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts.

Musica Primaria ("Primary Music") - Level 2 General Music Class/Vocal Music Emphasis - Age range: 6 to 10 years as of June 1, 2023 (1st through 4th grade-level students)

• This course prepares students for both Level 3 courses (Beginner's String Orchestra & Beginner's Band).

This is our "Children's Choir," with percussion instruments incorporated into the class.   The "Children's Choir" component is the main focus of this course, and features 2-part singing, call-and-response technique, solos with harmonies, and vocal technique exercises.  Percussion activities (featuring hand drums, bucket drums, boomwhackers, glockenspiels, xylophone, handbells, etc.) support note-reading and rhythm development.  Some of the choir pieces will include percussion, also.   Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts. 
 
Recent Repertoire includes:  Lean on Me; The Lion Sleeps Tonight; Yellow Bird; I'm Gonna Sing.

 

Drums, Flutes, & Ukuleles 

- Level 2 General Music Class/Instrumental Music Emphasis - Age range: 8 to 12 years as of June 1, 2023 (3rd through 6th grade-level students)

• This course prepares students for both Level 3 courses (Beginner's String Orchestra & Beginner's Band).

Your child will learn to play a number of high-quality percussion instruments (e.g. hand drums, glockenspiels, xylophone, boomwhackers, handbells etc.), and will apply their new skills in class activities such as "Drum Circle" and "Percussion Ensemble."  Recorders ("flutes") will be a significant part of every session, and some singing and movement will also be incorporated.  We provide ukuleles so that all students will be able to read and play several basic chords and notes.

At times, we will combine drums, recorders, and ukuleles during class so that students will have valuable experiences playing in an ensemble that features percussion, wind, and string instruments.  Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts.

 

Concert Choir - Level 3 Performing Vocal Ensemble - Age range: 10 to 18 years as of June 1, 2023 (5th through 12th grade-level students)

• This course supports all musical development.

Features: Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, Basses.  Class participants perform as groups in all Music Academy concerts.  Includes instruction regarding proper posture, breathing/support, tone, ear training, and more.

Recent Repertoire Includes:  On the Sunny Side of the Street; Smile, Fly Away Home; Umbrella; Minoi, Minoi, Minoi; Shenandoah; Carol of the Star; A Still, Silent Night; Snowy Woods

Beginner's Band - Level 3 Performing Wind & Percussion Ensemble - Age range: 10 to 18 years as of June 1, 2023

• This course prepares students for Concert Band and Concert Orchestra (both Level 4).

Instrument choices include: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, and Percussion.  Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts. 

Recent Repertoire Includes:  Essential Elements Book 1.

Concert Orchestra - Level 4 Performing String, Wind, & Percussion Ensemble - Intermediate-level through 18 years

• This course prepares students for Philharmonic Orchestra (Level 5).

Instrumentation includes: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass.  Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts.

Recent Repertoire Includes:  Can-Can; Secret Agent 440; Momentum; Gargoyles; Tango D'Amour; Riders in the Night; Christmas Tidings; Wenceslas; Rejoice, East and West

Concert Band - Level 4 Performing Wind & Percussion Ensemble - Intermediate-level through 18 years

• This course prepares students for Symphonic Band (Level 5).

Instrumentation includes: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium, Tuba, and Percussion.  Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts.  

Recent Repertoire Includes:  Furioso; Shepherd's Hey; Dark Ride; All Star; Mission: Impossible; Secret Agent Sugar Plum; Come, Rejoice!

Philharmonic Orchestra - Level 5 Performing String, Wind, & Percussion Ensemble - Upper Intermediate to Advanced

• By audition only

Instrumentation includes: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass.  Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts.

Recent Repertoire Includes:  Warrior Legacy; Thundersnow; Surge; Take Five; The Pink Panther; Fire in the Forge

Symphonic Band (Jazz Band) - Level 5 Performing Wind & Percussion Ensemble - Upper Intermediate to Advanced

• By audition only

Instrumentation includes: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, and Percussion.  Class participants perform as a group in all Music Academy concerts.

Recent Repertoire Includes:  Perdido; Day Tripper; Along for the Ride; 25 or 6 to 4; Chill Out Gents; The First Noel; You are the Sunshine of My Life
